CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The branch of the Social Security System (SSS) here is expecting the settlement of PHP7.2 million worth of unremitted contributions from 22 firms soon.

In a statement Friday, SSS Lapasan branch manager Valentine Aunzo said the expected settlement forms part of their Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) nationwide campaign.

"We are doing this activity to bring awareness to those employers and establishments who failed to comply with their SSS legal obligation," he said.

Aunzo said payment of SSS contributions is mandated under Republic Act 11199, or the Social Security Act of 2018, which obligates private sector employers to let their employees avail of the protection and benefits provided by the agency.

A show-cause order will be given to delinquent employers, he said, especially the owners of the 22 negligent firms in the city.

The firms are required to answer or comply within 15 days of receipt to avoid further legal action against them.

SSS said the RACE activities nationwide are an affirmation of the agency's commitment to ensuring the social security protection of its 31.96 million employee members.

The SSS is a state-run social insurance program in the Philippines for workers in the private, professional, and informal sectors. (PNA)
