ZAMBOANGA CITY – The local Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) has allayed fears of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) resurgence in the city.

Still, Mayor John Dalipe, chairperson of the local IATF-EID, emphasized the need for residents to protect themselves, their families, and their community from Covid-19, which remains ever-present.

“We should continue to practice good hygiene and sanitation to be protected from Covid-19 and other diseases,” Dalipe said Friday.

On Thursday afternoon, Dalipe convened the local IATF-EID to assess the current situation due to an uptick in Covid-19 cases in various parts of the country.

Dalipe said the council agreed that vaccination and booster jabs should be continued, especially for those who are immunocompromised, as this is the most effective measure to prevent deaths and severe symptoms of the disease.

Since January this year, the City Health Office (CHO) has recorded eight Covid-19 confirmed cases here.

The CHO report also showed that all nine active Covid-19 cases are either unvaccinated or not boosted and are immunocompromised or with impaired immune systems. (PNA)
