COTABATO CITY – A tornado amid a heavy downpour damaged homes and small boats, and uprooted trees in a Maguindanao Norte coastal village on Monday afternoon.

In a statement Tuesday, Mayor Marshal Sinsuat of Datu Blah Sinsuat town said the tornado hit the village of Nalkan during a heavy downpour coupled with thunderstorms and lightning at about 4 p.m.

Sinsuat said the tornado destroyed four homes made of light materials, uprooted huge trees, and destroyed an undetermined number of motorized bancas at the shoreline.

Two large cattle were also hit by falling huge trees, killing them instantly.

Residents said it was their first experience with a twister that sent parts of small houses, trees, and motorized bancas flying or thrown off the air, he said.

On Tuesday morning, villagers and local government workers helped clear the debris from the shoreline and village roads.

No villagers were reported injured in the incident. (PNA)
