MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday congratulated Filipina race car driver Bianca Bustamante for her maiden win in the inaugural all-female Formula 1 (F1) Academy in Valencia, Spain.

In a Facebook post, Marcos said the Philippine national anthem played as Bustamante became the first Filipina to ever win an F1 academy race.

"We are filled with pride upon hearing the Philippine national anthem played on the F1 stage for the very first time!" Marcos said.

"Congratulations to Ms. Bianca Bustamante on her historic win at the Valencia leg!" he added.

The President encouraged the 18-year-old race star to continue breaking barriers and inspiring young women around the world.

Bustamante, who is signed with Italian team PREMA Racing, pulled off her win in Race 2 with a time of 18:49.969, more than half a second faster than ART Grand Prix’s Lena Bühler.

Bustamante’s next race will be held in Barcelona, Spain from May 19 to 21. (PNA)
