Village chief killed, wife hurt in Leyte ambush

TACLOBAN CITY – A village chief was killed while his wife was wounded when gunmen riding in tandem attacked them along the road in Kananga, Leyte Wednesday afternoon.

Police identified the victim as Raul Cosinillo, 56, chair of Mataloto village in Leyte. The gun attack injured his wife, Mercedes.

“Initial investigation disclosed that victims were traveling on board a multicab on their way home and upon reaching at the place of incident, two unidentified suspects wearing black jacket and black helmet on board a motorcycle suddenly overtook the victim’s multicab and fired several shots,” the police said in its report shared to journalists Wednesday.

The shooting caused the multicab to swerve to the roadside. The village chair, who drove the vehicle, was pinned under the steering wheel and succumbed to gunshot wounds.

His wife sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to Clinica Gatchalian in Ormoc City.

Police launched a pursuit against the suspects. (PNA)
