MANILA – Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has not made any adjustment on its flight schedules for the two-hour corrective maintenance at the Philippine Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) on May 17, but noted that delays are possible.
From 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. on that date, the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) will be replaced and the air traffic management system (ATMS) will be upgraded at the ATMC, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
In an advisory on Friday, PAL said it "will strive to maintain normal flight schedules" during the two-hour period.
It added that its flights departing via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport will be allowed for take off using one of the two runways that will remain open for flight departures.
"As a precaution, we worked with aviation authorities to put in place contingency plans to ensure that flight departures and arrivals within said period are supported with the necessary air navigation guidance for safety and operational efficiency," the advisory read.
PAL added that flight delays are expected due to restrictions.
Passengers are advised to monitor their flight status on the PAL's website, which the carrier said is updated in real-time. No need to contact the PAL Contact Center to verify the information, it said.
CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency that Manila's Runway 13/31 enables other means of communication between pilots and the Control Tower. Thus, this would allow aircraft to land or depart during maintenance activity at the ATMC.
Runway 13/31 will be operational during CAAP's maintenance activity, and only Runway 06/24 will be closed from 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. on May 17, he said. (PNA)
