BIÑAN, Laguna – Stallion Laguna won their Philippines Football League (PFL) match against Mendiola, 2-0, at the Biñan Football Stadium here Sunday night.

Abe Placito scored the first goal in the 37th minute, converting a header off a corner kick from Finn McDaniel.

Alen Angeles scored the second goal in the 56th minute, after a back pass from Kouichi Belgira.

Hayeson Pepito kept a clean sheet as Stallion Laguna's starter, and even Nelson Gasic, who subbed in despite Pepito's impressive outing, also kept Mendiola blanked in the end.

Stallion Laguna formally took third place in the league table with 25 points after 16 matches.

With long-time gaffer Ernie Nierras not with the team for personal reasons, Clint McDaniel, Finn's father, took over for Stallion Laguna, winning in his PFL debut as head coach.

Stallion Laguna's win was a big one, as they are now in a good position to qualify for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.

They will play back-to-back matches at Dynamic Herb Cebu next week.

Mendiola, on the other hand, remains at six points after 16 matches. (PNA)
