MANILA – The Bacoor City Strikers defeated the Imus SV Squad, 60-52, at the STRIKE Gym in Bacoor on Monday night to claim Cavite's basketball supremacy in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
The Strikers, who improved to 8-1, played superb defense on the SV Squad, which is bannered by former Philippine Basketball Association superstars Marc Pingris, Jayjay Helterbrand, and Mac-Mac Cardona.
Bacoor City held Imus to at most 14 points in each of the four quarters.
James Kwekuteye led the Strikers with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block.
Jimboy Pasturan added 16 points off the bench.
Jaymar Gimpayan led the SV Squad, who fell to 3-5, with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Pingris and Cardona each added 11 points.
In the curtain-raisers, Batangas City bounced back from its tough home loss to Imus with a 78-70 win against Rizal, while Pampanga continued its strong start to its MPBL campaign with a 76-68 victory over Batang Kankaloo. (PNA)
