MANILA – Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has renewed his call for a stronger fire prevention campaign as his office provided relief assistance to fire victims in Taytay, Rizal on May 12.

In a new release on Tuesday, Go said the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is undergoing a 10-year modernization program under Republic Act 11589 or BFP Modernization Act, which he authored and co-sponsored in the Senate.

“Karagdagang kagamitan (additional equipment), firefighters and monthly education campaigns para turuan ang ating mga kababayan na mag-ingat, ‘yan po ang BFP Modernization Act. Bawat bahay na nasusunog, nadadamay ang kapitbahay kaya dapat doble ingat tayo (to teach our people on fire prevention are included in the BFP Modernization Act. We have to be more careful because fire also affect the neighbor),” Go said.

Go’s team provided grocery packs, masks, vitamins and shirts to 205 fire-hit households. They also gave away cellular phones, shoes, bags, basketballs and volleyballs to select beneficiaries.

“A lost life is a lost life forever, kaya mag-ingat tayo palagi (So let’s always be careful),” he told the fire victims.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also extended financial assistance to ensure the beneficiaries would be able to sustain their needs while they recover from the damages caused by the fire incident.

Go, chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, also advised those seeking medical services to visit Malasakit Centers at Bagong Cainta Municipal Hospital, Margarito A. Duavit Memorial Hospital in Binangonan, Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Hospital in Rodriguez, and Antipolo City Hospital System Annex IV.

Malasakit Centers are one-stop shops that provide indigent patients with more convenient access to medical assistance programs from the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.

Go authored the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019 which led to the establishment of 157 Malasakit Centers nationwide.

He said as vice chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, he will also support the construction of a sports complex, acquisition of an ambulance and the construction of a drainage canal system in Taytay. (PNA)
