MANILA – An overstaying American wanted by federal authorities in Nevada, USA for sex crimes has been arrested in Zambales by operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
Fugitive Eduardo Rojas Minas, 60, was arrested in Sta. Cruz, Zambales on Monday by operatives of the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU), Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Wednesday
Minas has been on the wanted list of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) since November 2006 when a warrant of arrest was issued against him by a court in Las Vegas township, Clark County, Nevada.
He, however, had already flown to the Philippines a month before his warrant came out and has never left the country since.
“He will, thus, be deported for overstaying and being an undesirable and undocumented alien. He no longer holds a valid passport since it already expired in Jan. 2013 and was not renewed,” Tansingco said.
Minas, he said, would be perpetually barred from re-entering the Philippines for his crimes.
Citing information obtained from US authorities in Manila, BI-FSU acting chief Renell Ryan Sy said the foreigner was charged before the Nevada court with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of statutory sexual seduction.
He is now detained at the BI holding facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings. (PNA)
