CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga–The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the asphalt overlaying projects along major highways in the province of Nueva Ecija that would provide a more convenient and safer travel experience for motorists.

DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino said on Wednesday that the DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office (DEO) has finished the upgrading of the 2.22 kilometers of the Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA) sections in Barangay San Nicolas in Gapan City and Barangay Poblacion to Barangay Malapit in San Isidro town.

With a total cost of PHP69.25 million, Tolentino said the completed road projects along JASA are part of the DPWH asset preservation and preventive maintenance program that aims to deter road deterioration and address necessary repairs to avoid road inconvenience.

Also known as the Gapan-San Fernando-Olongapo Road, JASA serves as a major highway connecting the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Zambales.

Likewise, he said the DPWH is also fast-tracking other road preventive maintenance projects in Nueva Ecija.

These are the repairs of the 1.9 kilometers of JASA section in Barangay San Roque to Barangay Sto. Cristo in San Isidro and the 1.7 kilometers of Daang Maharlika section in Barangay Sto. Cristo Norte and Barangay Bayanihan in Gapan City, with a total cost of PHP90.39 million and PHP57.59 million, respectively.

The projects are funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2023.

Meanwhile, the DPWH said the Cabu Detour Road along Cabanatuan City section of the Nueva Ecija-Aurora road will be totally closed to heavy vehicles starting on Friday.

The DPWH, in its advisory, said the closure is necessary due to the ongoing rehabilitation and reblocking of the portion of Manacnac, Palayan City section of the Nueva Ecija-Aurora road.

With this, all trucks, trailers and heavy equipment going to Palayan City, Bongabon and Gabaldon in Nueva Ecija and Dingalan in Aurora province are advised to take the alternate routes, the Laur-Fort Magsaysay Road, Palayan-Natividad Road and the Bongabon-Rizal Road. (PNA)
