MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured the family of the police officer who was killed in the line of duty while taking part in a high-risk law enforcement operation in Orion, Bataan that they would be properly and justly compensated for their loss.

PNP public information office chief, Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, in a statement on Wednesday, identified the slain police officer as Cpl. Darnel Alfonso, a member of the intelligence unit of the Bataan Police.

Alfonso was killed after he was shot by suspect Mark Anthony Capacia and another person during a drug sting in Purok 8, Barangay Gen. Lim, Orion, Bataan at about 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Maranan also said two members of the arresting team, Maj. Dennis Duran and Staff Sgt. Glenn Salac, were wounded in the incident, which resulted in the deaths of the two suspects.

"The PNP assures the orphaned family of Cpl. Alfonso of immediate release of all financial assistance and benefits due. At the same time, Police Regional Office 3 (Central Luzon) was instructed to provide for all medical needs of the two wounded personnel until their full recovery,” he added.

Maranan said the PNP remains "undaunted" by this incident and would be further inspired by Alfonso’s heroic sacrifice while performing his duty. (PNA)
