P9.7M worth of aid given to Betty-affected population - NDRRMC

MANILA – The government has provided over PHP9 million worth of assistance and other relief goods to six regions affected by bad weather due to Typhoon Betty, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.

In its latest disaster bulletin, the agency said a total of PHP9,747,456 worth of assistance were sent to Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) to help families heavily affected by the typhoon.

The amount covers food and non-food items such as butane canisters, hygiene kits, laminated sacks, modular tents, portable stoves, sleeping kits and fuel.

The agency said 21,586 families which is equivalent to 77,801 persons residing in 294 barangays in these regions were affected by Betty.

Of these numbers, 678 families or 2,187 individuals are being aided in 42 evacuation centers with the remainder either being helped outside, seeking shelter with relatives and friends, or have returned home as of this time.

Meanwhile, the agency is validating a report of one fatality in Cordillera.

A total of 86 houses were reported damaged in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Western Visayas and CAR -- 78 of which were partially damaged houses and eight were totally damaged. (PNA)
