LAOAG CITY–An additional 15 units of modernized public utility jeepneys (PUJs) will soon ply the Narvacan-Vigan route following its launch at the Villa Gloria Beach Resort in Barangay Bulanos, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur on Thursday.

Leading Japanese truck maker Isuzu Philippines Corporation turned over the keys of the brand new units to the Northern Ilocos City of Laoag Transport Service Cooperative (NICOLTSC) operating in Ilocos Sur.

The transport cooperative is just one of the several groups of driver and operator associations in the province that embrace the national government’s  Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program.

“The modern PUJs via Narvacan-Vigan route will make traveling more convenient for commuters,” said Rudy Contillo, a resident of Narvacan as he shared his excitement about the new route of modern PUJs in his hometown.

Earlier, the transport coop applied for a special permit for public transportation operations in the identified route with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

The LTFRB granted the opening of additional routes for the improvement of the land transportation sector.

"It is an honor for us and the men and women of LTFRB to witness the hardships and dedications of this cooperative to modernize their fleet,” said chief transportation and development officer Anabel M. Marzan-Nullar in a statement. (PNA)
