NEW YORK – The number of Americans living in poverty has increased for the first time since 2010, the US Census Bureau said Tuesday.
The supplemental poverty rate increased to 12.4 percent in 2022 from 7.8 percent posted in 2021, data showed.
Data also showed a 2.3 percent decrease in median household income, from USD76,330 in 2021 to USD74,580 in 2022.
The official poverty rate stood at 11.5 percent in 2022, compared to 11.6 percent in 2021.
An estimated 25.9 million (7.9 percent of population) did not have health insurance at any point in 2022, according to the data. (Anadolu)
