DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) collected around PHP2.6 million in fines for various motorcycle violations during a series of operations from May 5 to 11.

DCPO chief, Col. Richard Bad-ang, said the bulk of the fines came from their relentless operations targeting "bora-bora" (modified muffler) motorcycles and other nuisance motorcycles.

"The DCPO intensified its operations intending to create safe roads for motorists and pedestrians in the city," Bad-ang said in a report Monday.

DCPO's operational units issued 28 citation tickets for bora-bora, resulting in fines of PHP13,500 and PHP25,000 for temporary operator's permit (TOP) issuances, he said.

At least 405 operations related to Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, also resulted in the issuance of 305 TOPs and the collection of fines of PHP665,031.

The DCPO-Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) also carried out 622 operations targeting violations of the Local Traffic Code, issuing 2,597 citation tickets and collecting PHP1.29 million in fines.

Under the Speed Limit Ordinance, DCPO-TEU issued 526 citation tickets, resulting in fines of PHP526,000.

Moreover, Bad-ang said the "No Helmet, No Travel Policy" operation resulted in the issuance of 122 citation tickets worth PHP61,000.

The "No Plate, No Travel" operation also led to 78 apprehensions and PHP39,000 in fines. (PNA)
