CEBU CITY – The city government of Lapu-Lapu is reviewing its policy on water sports activities following the death of a local tourist in a freak accident at a jumping balloon facility in Olango Island.
Mayor Junard Ahong Chan said Monday that the city government already issued a cease-and-desist order on Pinky’s Floating Cottage, pending police investigation and review of safety measures of the resort located in Sitio Basdako, Barangay San Vicente.
“As a result of the incident in your establishment that resulted (in) a loss of life, you are hereby ordered to cease and desist from further operations effective immediately,” Chan’s order read.
The July 11 incident killed a 45-year-old woman from Cagayan de Oro City.
The attraction involves a participant lying on an inflated giant balloon, to be thrown into the sea when a resort staff jumps in.
However, the tourist’s head reportedly hit a hard object.
“We temporarily hold the operation while the authorities are still investigating. My condolences to the family of the 45-year-old guest from Cagayan de Oro,” Chan said. (PNA)
