CEBU CITY – Bohol province has embarked on an ambitious renewable energy program to improve the power sector in the tourism island.
In his State of the Province Address on Friday, Governor Erico Aumentado said Bohol has undertaken a major initiative to codify its renewable energy program.
“Bohol passed the Renewable Energy Code which provides incentives for renewable energy projects in the province,” Aumentado said.
He said the code enables the consumers to avail of the net metering program of the Department of Energy which would help them save on the cost of electricity.
“As we provide the enabling environment, we also support projects on the ground for renewable energy,” he added, citing two big-ticket solar power projects that are now in the pipeline.
Aumentado said the Dagohoy Solar Power Project is now under construction and is set to be commissioned by the end of this year.
The solar power plant managed by the Petro Green Energy Corp. is expected generate 27 megawatts (MW) of renewable solar power.
The other ongoing renewable energy project is the Ubay Solar Power Plant which will generate an additional 155 MW of renewable solar power.
The construction of the second solar power plant is expected to start during the first quarter of 2025, he added.
Meanwhile, Aumentado said Bohol has pursued a clear direction focused on the development agenda on the strategic governance roadmap.
“The roadmap highlights nine strategic change agenda duly supportive of the Philippine Development Plan of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,” he added. (PNA)
