MANILA – A barge ran aground in the waters off Pondohan, Tangos North, Navotas City on Tuesday due to inclement weather brought by Tropical Storm Enteng.
In a situation report, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Barge Karangalan 2 was moored at San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Shipping and Lighterage Wharf in Tanza, Navotas City, when its forward ropes accidentally broke, causing it to be adrift at around 6 a.m.
MTUG Limay 3 responded and towed the vessel towards a safer place.
The barge was later anchored along the waters of Tanza, Navotas City but was dragged towards the shallow portion of Pondohan due to strong winds and big waves.
PCG personnel responded to the incident and advised the ship master to file a marine protest and an emergency salvage permit to allow for the ship’s extraction.
“The PCG continues to monitor the aground vessel and will conduct boarding inspection as soon as weather permits,” it said.
In its 11 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tropical Storm Enteng has reintensified over waters west of Ilocos Norte.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 has been raised over the western portion of Ilocos Norte and the northern portion of Ilocos Sur.
TCWS No. 1 has been raised over the rest of Ilocos Norte, the rest of Ilocos Sur, the northern portion of la Union, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, the western portion of Mountain Provice, the northern portion of Benguet, and the western section of Cagayan. (PNA)
