MANILA – University of Perpetual Help banked on John Boral to slip past Arellano University, 69-67, and gain a share of the lead in the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Season 100 men's basketball tournament at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Friday.
Boral scored on a layup and sank a triple that saved the day for the Altas, who secured their second straight win to share the top spot with College of Saint Benilde (CSB) and San Sebastian College-Recoletos.
Mark Gojo Cruz led the Altas with 20 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Jerico Camay finished with 12 points and three assists while Cyril Hernal chipped in 10 points, 12 rebounds and three steals for Arellano, which shares the cellar with Lyceum of the Philippines and Jose Rizal University (JRU) at 0-2.
The JRU Heavy Bombers bowed to the Letran Knights, 62-70, in the other game.
Sherick Estrada had 22 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block for Letran, now tied with defending champion San Beda University, Mapua University and Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) at 1-1.
James Miller contributed 16 points, five assists and two steals for the Knights, who bowed to the San Sebastian Stags last week, 84-91.
Meanwhile, the Stags take on the San Beda Red Lions at 11 a.m. while the CSB Blazers face the EAC Generals at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. (PNA)
