MANILA -- Listed Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corp. (CLC) on Monday closed a deal with Kegoya Dock Co., Ltd. of Japan for the construction of new roll-on roll-off (RoRo) passenger ship in its bid to boost expansion.
CLC told the local bourse the ship is designed for Philippine waters taking into consideration the local sea condition and consumer demand.
The company said under the contract, it also has the option to acquire additional three units for delivery in 2019 to 2020 in line with its goal to become the country’s prime mover of vital goods, cargoes and people.
CLC President and Chief Executive Officer Chryss Alfonsus Damuy said the new ships would modernize the company’s fleet and enhance safety and reliability for better customer experience.
“We are conscious of our direction and our deliverables to our shareholders, thus we are fast-tracking our fleet expansion…,” he said.
CLC currently has 15 tankers, eight tugboats, 21 RoRo and passenger vessels (RoPax) and four cargo ships.
Logistics giant 2GO Group Inc., meanwhile, has 16 RoPax, five cargo vessels and 10 fastcrafts. (PNA)
