Chinese media group to open Belt & Road news center in SEA

BEIJING – Chengdu Media Group’s Red Star News has launched Monday the Belt and Road International News Channel, and eyes to open a news center in Southeast Asia this year.

Red Star News is a mobile news platform in China established by newspaper Chengdu Economic Daily.

The Red Star News aims to tell stories about the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) through the Belt and Road International News Channel.

Currently, Red Star News has over 70 million users. It aims to expand globally by launching the Belt and Road news center.

During the launching, Red Star News Editor-in-Chief Li Shaojun said Chengdu Media Group will invest RMB100 million or USD15 million to put up Red Star Media Technology Co., Ltd. that will enhance the technical capacity of the new mobile news platform.

Aside from Southeast Asia, the media group eyes news centers this year in East Asia and Europe, while America and Africa news centers will be established in the coming years.

The Chinese government is gaining support from the media, as media groups launched their own divisions for BRI news.

Before the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF), the official newspaper group of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China also launched its BRI news platform.

China concluded the second BRF last Saturday in Beijing participated in by 37 world leaders including Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte. (PNA)
