MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 3,462 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, raising the overall tally to 115,980.

The DOH said the additional cases reported were based on the total Covid-19 tests done by 84 out of 98 operational laboratories.

The majority of the newly announced cases are from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,434; Laguna with 105; Rizal with 101; Cavite with 73; Cebu with 62; and the rest from the other regions.

It also reported 222 new recoveries and nine deaths. These figures increased the number of recoveries to 66,270 and the number of deaths to 2,123.

"Of the 3,462 reported cases today, 2,919 or 84 percent occurred within the recent 14 days (July 23-August 5, 2020), and the top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR with 2,083 cases or 71 percent, Region 4A with 299 cases or 10 percent and Region 3 with 96 cases or 3 percent. It added that 75 duplicates were removed from the total case count and updated the outcomes of two cases - one was previously reported as death but updated as recovered and one case was previously reported as recovered but updated as death after final validation - which are already included in the count of new deaths and recoveries.

The health department also noted that the country has 47,587 active cases -- around 91.4 percent are mild, 7.3 percent are asymptomatic, 0.8 percent are severe, and 0.5 percent are critical patients.

Meanwhile, the case fatality rate is 1.98 percent, the positivity rate is 9.55 percent, the reproduction number is 0.958, the case doubling time is 9.04 days, and the mortality doubling time is 13.14 days.
