ZAMBOANGA CITY – Six persons died while seven others were wounded when an ambulance and a truck collided head-on along the national highway in Zamboanga del Norte, a police official said Thursday.

Major  Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, said the incident Wednesday afternoon in Sindangan town resulted in the death of Mario Macatual, Joseph Lopena, Analisa Maribojoc, Princess Gold Ejan Sangilan, and Julie Jay Sumonglay.

One other fatality was not immediately identified.

Of the seven wounded, only four were identified: Saturnino Tagulod, Flora Mae Antoc, Sany Boy Rubayan, and Izan Luz.

Police said the two vehicles collided when Macatual lost control of the truck’s steering wheel and encroached the opposite lane after a brake malfunction.

The ambulance driven by Lopena with seven passengers aboard was traveling from the town of Liloy to Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte, at the time of the accident.

Tagulod and Antoc were the only passengers of the ambulance who survived the collision.

The rest of the injured victims were passengers of the truck. (PNA)
