LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) bagged the Best Police Regional Office award for its accomplishments in law enforcement during the celebration of the 121st Police Service Anniversary on Monday.

Brig. Gen. Mario Reyes, PRO-5 director, received the award at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

The event graced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was themed "Matibay na Ugnayan ng Pulisya at Mamamayan, Tungo sa Pagkakaisa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran”.

"This accomplishment is the fruit of our labors and solidarity in fulfilling our one great mission -- to serve and protect," Reyes said in a statement.

He said the accomplishment is also shared with the community, stakeholders and partner agencies for their active participation in creating a safer and more peaceful place for the people.

"The commendation is a way to recognize the extraordinary operational and administrative accomplishments of the regional office," he said.

The award covered the period from April 2021 to March 2022.

Among the accomplishments of PRO-5 during the period was the arrest of 62 New People's Army (NPA) rebels and the surrender of 72 others as a result of the government’s retooled community support program.

The annual celebration of the police service anniversary is in commemoration of the joint founding of the Insular Constabulary in 1901 and the integrated National Police in 1975, both forerunner organizations of the Philippine National Police. (PNA)
