CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – The Bustos Dam, also known as Angat Afterbay Regulator Dam, started releasing water on Saturday as heavy rains filled its upstream river system.

This was confirmed to the Philippine News Agency by Robert dela Cruz, manager of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-Bulacan on Monday.

"Pinapakawalan po sa sluice gate natin ay run off lang po dulot ng ulan (What we are releasing in our sluice gate is just run off due to rains),” he said in a text message.

Felicisima Mungcal, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), said Bustos Dam has been releasing 39 cubic meters per second of water which has a minimal effect on its downstream Angat River system.

Records from the PDRRMO showed that the water elevation of Angat Dam on Aug. 1 was 177.70 meters, and 17.26 meters at Bustos Dam, compared to Sunday's 178.19 meters and 17.26 meters, respectively.

Meanwhile, Dela Cruz said Angat Dam has temporarily halted its irrigation allocation to Bulacan and some parts of Pampanga farmlands.

The allocation coming from Angat Dam is being coursed through Bustos Dam which distributes it through NIA's north and south irrigated service areas in Bulacan and some parts of Pampanga. (PNA)
