MANILA – Two researchers from the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) have been selected to participate in the Unispace Nanosatellite Assembly and Training (UNNATI) by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru, India from Oct. 15 to Dec. 15.

UNNATI will provide Gracielle Capardo and Nathan Oscar Rosimo of the PhilSA Space Technology Missions and Systems Bureau (STMSB) with a learning opportunity on assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) of nanosatellites in a multicultural context, drawing from the space technology experience of UN member states.

"The UNNATI program offers a great opportunity for Filipino researchers to gain theoretical and practical immersion in space technology while engaging fellow satellite-builders around the world and building professional networks," PhilSA Director General Joel Marciano Jr. told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday.

He added that he is looking forward to more people-to-people interaction, and strengthening cooperation with ISRO as well as the Department of Space of India in boosting the space capabilities and enterprises.

Space researchers who will join the training are expected to develop expertise in satellite technology, obtain hands-on experience in AIT, gain exposure to satellite fabrication technologies, and observe and implement best practices and methodologies by ISRO.

"PhilSA is grateful to ISRO and the government of India for sponsoring the participation of our engineers in the UNNATI program. As an up-and-coming agency, we always look for opportunities to develop our personnel and build our capabilities further. The UNNATI program enables our young engineers to upgrade their knowledge and skills in nanosatellite development," said STMSB Director Marc Talampas.

PhilSA said its participation in UNNATI also paves the way for the strengthening of the country’s relations with the ISRO for potential future space cooperation. (PNA)
