MANILA – Barangay Ginebra came alive late in the third quarter to turn back NorthPort Batang Pier, 118-102, in Game 1 of their PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinal series at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Wednesday night.
The Gin Kings zoomed past the Batang Pier with a 19-4 run to end the third and take an 89-74 lead entering the fourth.
Ginebra would extend its lead to as high as 20 points, 106-86, midway in the fourth period and never let go of the large lead in the end.
Justin Brownlee fired 39 points on 16-of-24 shooting with eight rebounds for the Gin Kings, who took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three affair.
Game 2 is set on Saturday night, also at the PhilSports Arena. (PNA)
