BOAC, Marinduque – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Monday announced that its efforts to reach more residents in remote villages are making headway after 820 residents from three mountain barangays in this Marinduque municipality were registered with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

Gemma Opis, PSA-Marinduque’s chief statistical specialist, said that 404 were from Barangay Tambunan, 240 from Barangay Tumagabok and 176 others in Barangay Sabong finally received their national IDs.

She explained that it was a logistical challenge to bring the PhilSys service to the three rural communities.

“It was very hard to bring the registration kits from one distant barangay to another, and throughout it all, internet service was spotty,” Opis said in Filipino.

Barangays Tambunan, Tumagabok and Sabong are all located 1,000 feet above sea level, with households numbering 115, 92, and 22 respectively, according to the PSA.

During the PSA’s latest census in 2020, Tambunan had a total population of 574, Tumagabok had 426, and Sabong had 137. (PNA)
