TANAY, Rizal – EdgePoint Philippines on Thursday said its first tower partnership with DITO Telecommunity is fully operational and is already serving the villages here.

The company said the lone tower is potentially capable of covering the communications needs of the town’s entire population.

While the newly-activated Tanay cell site represents EdgePoint’s first tower colocation tenancy site deal with DITO, the company revealed that it now operates 190 other towers in Rizal.

The Singapore-headquartered Malaysian telecommunications infrastructure firm said the 48-meter tall tower was made “ready for installation” within two weeks after it was acquired.

Suresh Sidhu, Chief Executive Officer of EdgePoint Infrastructure, said his company is focused on making its tower network available to all operators for fast-track deployment.

“We are committed to ensuring the ready availability of accessible and reliable wireless telecommunications infrastructure to support all mobile network operators and Internet service providers in the Philippines, thereby improving service quality to their customers,” Sidhu added.

In an email, EdgePoint told the Philippine News Agency that it is presently “working with operators, including DITO, to identify more colocation opportunities to speed up deployment time.”

The company also disclosed that it now operates 2,557 active cell towers in the country and targets to bring that number up to 3,000 by yearend.

EdgePoint’s business was made possible by the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) “Common Tower Policy” under which independent infrastructure companies can lease out space on their towers to several telcos on a non-exclusive basis.

At the time of its adoption in 2020, the DICT said in a circular that its policy sought to “ensure universal access to quality, affordable, reliable and secure ICT services.” (PNA)
