MANILA -- Meralco Energy, Inc. (MSERV), a unit of the Manila Electric Company, will energize the country's largest hyperscale data center ST Telemedia Global Data Center (STT GDC Philippines).
In a statement Friday, MSERV said the partnership will push for innovation and technological advancement in the local digital industry.
STT GDC Philippines is a joint venture of Globe Telecom, Inc., Ayala Corp, and Singapore-based STT GDC. The facility is located in Fairview, Quezon City.
It has data center facilities located in Metro Manila, Cavite, and Davao.
MSERV secured the contract to supply and install key electrical equipment for the data center, including high voltage gas-insulated switch gears, high voltage oil-immersed transformers, and medium voltage dry type transformers.
"This collaboration goes beyond just securing electricity; it fuels a shared vision for a transformative digital future that unlocks innovation and growth across the nation," STT GDC Philippines head of design and construction Pierre San Diego said.
MSERV president and chief executive officer Ronald Torres said the company is ready to deliver customized energy efficiency solutions to meet the demand of STT GDC Philippines' new facility.
"MSERV is deeply committed to our ongoing partnership. Together, we are not just providers of data center services but digital enablers towards a progressive future. We hope to continue playing a significant role in fostering innovation and driving technological advancement to new heights,” Torres added.
According to Alibaba Cloud, 85 percent of businesses in the Philippines are projected to transition to cloud computing by 2025, which means there will be a big demand for data centers.
Data centers require large power for its operation and the government has said it wants these facilities to use clean energy to supply the industry. (PNA)
