LETTERS FROM DAVAO

Death wish, bad wish

BEWARE of what you wish and pray for. It could boomerang. Jim Paredes is so consumed with his hatred for Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, he plastered his face on Facebook angry at the man he cannot accept has at least 16-million fans who voted him to office instead of a wimp he had hoped will succeed  Benigno Aquino III and perpetuate the Yellow administration. For one reason or another, he was caught literally with his pants down and exposed his orgasmic interlude in the whole wide world.

I have no wish to desecrate the dead so I will not mention his name here. It's eerie and portentous but this latest case of a high profile character had made public his wish last Sunday for Duterte to just drop dead. The next day he kicked the bucket in what the family members described from  a "natural cause".

This recent case suddenly brings back in a rush what happened to people who wanted and even prayed that Duterte either gets sick or land in jail. What happened is the reverse. The President who openly admits he is sick is actually strong he can outlast his cabinet officials in meetings that oftentimes would last up to the wee hours. Sen. Leila de Lima who, as Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights, had been hounding him with charges since 1989 up to the time she became senator is now detained for her involvement in the drug trade. Another Sen. Antonio Trillanes who wants Duterte jailed for the death of some 27,000 alleged victims of extra-judicial killings conjured by his perjured witnesses, is now out of the Senate and is facing various charges in various courts which could land him in the calaboose.

In juxtaposition, ex-CHR Chair Etta Rosales, who had wished the Marcoses jailed and dispossessed of what she claimed were ill-gotten wealth, is in hysteria after the Sandiganbayan dismissed charges against the latter. In a fit of anger, she blamed President Duterte for lack of support in seeing to it that the Sandiganbayan rules otherwise. Etta conveniently forgot that all the cases against the Marcos family were filed during the Cory Aquino regime. Before Duterte's term, there were Presidents Fidel Ramos, Joseph Estrada, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, and Benigno Simeon Aquino III!

Strange? God must be listening to the more than 80 percent Filipinos approving of what Rodrigo Duterte, the man from the boondocks, is doing.  And here lies the saying: "the voice of the People is the voice of God".  Next time, beware of what you are praying and wishing for.
