Robredo’s vow

January 14, 2022, 3:42 pm

DID I hear it right? Presidential aspirant Leni Robredo was quoted as saying she vows “to restore the people’s trust in government”.

This is both an insult to President Rodrigo R. Duterte and a proposition that we install the Aquino brand of leadership in the government with which she has been associated.

Has Robredo not seen the writing on the wall and asked herself why despite the “unlamented regime” of dictator Ferdinand Marcos and 19 years of Aquino administration the son Bongbong is heading for a landslide and she is now overtaken by Isko Moreno? That is if we believe the figures of the pollsters.

Well, Leni is not wanting in the company of the same mindset. Ex-Justice Antonio Carpio and his cabal at 1Sambayan are singing the same tune which does not jibe with what the people want. Carpio thinks he can bank on his being an ex-Justice to assert that BBM had been convicted for not filing his income tax.  He went about town condemning BBM. He however did not disclose that the higher court had reversed the conviction so what does that make of him? Dante Ang, the Chairman Emeritus of Manila Times,  aptly describes him as a plain black propagandist.

Leni, Carpio, and the “Oust Duterte” movement - the all-certified Yellow Clique must have come to their senses by now that restoring the kind of governance that the people had been through under the two Aquino administrations had become a veritable anathema to the nation. But I think they are banking on whatever is left of the Aquino cultists.

With the unprecedented Trust and Approval rating of Duterte and her anemic score, the wide disparity between them eloquently argues against her proposition to revive any vestiges of the Aquino regime. The other vital issue that Leni and her yellow, pink, and even red supporters are missing is that it may not be Marcos's factor alone that they are up against but the people’s desire for the continuity of Duterte’s program. As Davao City Mayor Inday Sara had said, the Uniteam of BBM-SARA will not only continue with the Build, Build, Build program of the President but will expand \it.

That agenda against Leni’s vow to restore the people’s trust in government by resurrecting the Aquino brand of leadership are the issues on the block.
