MANILA - The low-pressure area northwest of Pangasinan province's Dagupan City has developed into a tropical depression locally named 'Nando.'

'Nando' was located 280 km west-northwest of Dagupan as of 3 p.m. Saturday, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 24-hour forecast released Saturday afternoon.

PAGASA said 'Nando' is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 60 kph.

According to PAGASA, 'Nando' may move west-northwest at 24 kph.

Lightning, moderate to occasional heavy rains, strong winds, flash floods and landslides are possible in Zambales and Bataan provinces due to cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms from 'Nando,' said PAGASA.

Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Mindoro and Palawan may experience possible lightning, strong winds and light to moderate rains as 'Nando' can bring to these areas cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

Occasional lightning, strong winds and heavy rains are likely in the Visayas, Mindanao and rest of Luzon due to localized thunderstorms that can bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, PAGASA added.

The LPA developed into 'Nando' around 2 p.m. Saturday while inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), noted PAGASA weather forecaster Jun Galang.

'Nando' may exit PAR either late Saturday evening or on Sunday (Sept. 24), he said.

In its 24-hour forecast, PAGASA said moderate to rough coastal waters are possible in Northern Luzon where moderate to strong winds blowing from the southeast are likely.

Moderate to rough coastal waters are likewise possible in Luzon's western section as moderate to strong winds from southwest to south may blow there, PAGASA noted.

Coastal waters in rest of the country may be slight to moderate from light to moderate winds blowing from southwest to south, PAGASA added. (PNA)
