KUALA LUMPUR -- Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon scored victories to reach the men's singles quarterfinals in the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games tennis competition at the National Tennis Centre Complex in Jalan Duta here Tuesday.

Alcantara, the tournament's fourth seed, downed Kenny Bun of Cambodia, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, while Patrombon, seeded seventh, defeated Vitaya Rasavady, 6-0, 6-1.

Alcantara also made it to the doubles quarterfinals with Filipino-American Ruben Gonzales. The second-ranked pair won over Myo Thant Aung and Thet Oo Aung of Myanmar, 6-0, 6-1.

The Filipino tandem will be up against Aditya Harry Sasongko and Sunu Wahyu Trijati of Indonesia, who scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Samneang Long and Sarith Our of Cambodia.

Meanwhile, Filipino-American Katharina Lehnert and Anna Clarice Patrimonio won their first-round matches in the women's singles category. Lehnert demolished Thandar Aung of Myanmar, 6-0, 6-0, to advance against top seed Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand, a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Lavina Tananta of Indonesia.

Patrimonio, on the other hand, outplayed Charmaine Seah Shi Yi of Singapore, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, to set up a second-round meeting with Beatrice Gumulya of Indonesia, who eliminated No. 2 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat of Thailand, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

In the women's doubles, Lehnert and Filipino-American Denise Dy outclassed Sreynoch Ho and Sreypov Hour of Cambodia, 6-0, 6-0, to advance in the second round against Jessy Priskila Rompies and Gumulya of Indonesia.

"My opponent changed her strategy in the second set and I made some errors," said the 23-year-old Patrimonio, who is making her third straight appearance in the SEA Games.

"The third set was also close, she managed to tie the score at 3-3 and 4-4. But I leveled up my game to win the match," said the 5-foot-9 Patrimonio, a member of the four-time UAAP champion National University.

Patromonio, back-to-back singles and doubles champions in the PCA Open, won the singles and team bronze medals in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar. She was a member of the team which won the silver in Singapore two years ago. (PNA)
