Athletics delivers two more golds for PH

KUALA LUMPUR -- Aries Toledo and Anthony Beram ruled their respective events in athletics Wednesday night to power the Philippines’ gold medal count to 10 in the 29th Southeast Asian Games.

Toledo topped the decathlon while Beram capped the night with his blistering run in the 200-meter dash. Mark Harry Diones bagged the silver in the triple jump and Arniel Ferra got the bronze in the men’s hammer throw event.

As of Wednesday evening, Team Philippines remains in sixth place with 10-15-20 (gold-silver-bronze) medal count. Host Malaysia is on top with 50-37-32, Singapore in second spot with 27-23-24 and Vietnam in third spot with 27-19-24.

Gymnast Kaitlin De Guzman started the Philippines’ medal harvest during Wednesday's action when she settled for silver in the floor exercise and a bronze in the balance beam of the women's artistic gymnastics competition.

Other medalists of the day are: silver -- John Paul Bejar in karate-do (men’s kumite below 55kg) and Marco Vilog in the 800-meter run; bronze -- Reyland Yuson Capellan (vault men's artistic gymnastics event), Mae Soriano in karate-do (women's kumite below 55kg).

Philippine tankers got three bronze medals courtesy of Jasmine Alkhaldi who finished in the women’s 100-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly and anchored her team in the 4 X 200 meter freestyle for third place.

The squash team got two bronze medals in women's doubles and mixed doubles events. (PNA)
