DAVAO CITY – After successfully hosting a film festival of 93 short and 12 full-length films, Nabunturan town in Compostela Valley Province will soon have its own cinematheque, a project of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

The Nabunturan cinematheque will be situated in an 800-square meter property as a project of FDCP under Liza Dino.

Nabunturan has just concluded a film festival, a convergence of all film festivals with this year’s theme: “No Walls No ceilings”.

The Nabunturan film festival was organized by the Nabunturan Independent Film Exhibition (Nabifilmex) aimed at bringing film appreciation closer to the grassroots level and boosting the tourism industry of the municipality.

Nabunturan Mayor Cherlita Amatong expressed her gratitude for hosting this year’s film festival which is also seen to boost the tourism industry of the town and Compostela Valley Province.

Amatong said it was a wish last year for the town’s Cinema Rehiyon to be staged in Nabunturan. Cinema Rehiyon is a flagship program of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Cinema Committee and the FDCP.

“I extend my gratitude to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts for their trust,” she said.

The Cinema Rehiyon 9 is hosted by the Nabifilmex, in partnership with the Municipal Government of Nabunturan, provincial government of Compostela Valley and the Nabunturan Municipal Tourism Council.

Lawyer Karen Malaki, Nabifilmex festival director, earlier said the Cinema Rehiyon has been in existence since 2009 and it is going around the cities in the country.
The film showings or screenings in Nabunturan were held in open air as an alternative to cinema theaters in big cities.

Among the official delegates to the festival were 80 filmmakers, 20 festival directors and 20 guests, artists and jurors.

Aside from screenings of best and short films, the festival also included conferences, workshops, and forums to foster the regional filmmaking movement and network; Masters Class with award-winning Asian filmmaker; a 24-hour filmmaking competition; eco-tourism tours; and, cultural performances.
