CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—A group of Singaporean businessmen will visit this city to explore local investment opportunities, an official of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) said.

PCCI President George Barcelon said Cagayan de Oro City has been chosen as the first venue for the itinerary of the "high-level entrepreneurs" from Singapore, who are scheduled to visit Mindanao in October.

Barcelon views Cagayan de Oro City as the fastest growing urban hub on the island, noting that "it is the seventh most competitive city in the country."

“I am a witness of Cagayan de Oro evolving over time with tremendous opportunities for further growth. Real estate developers such as the Ayalas and the Sys have made their mark here,” Barcelon told the more than a thousand participants in the 26th Mindanao Business Conference (MinBizCon) here over the weekend.

During the event, Finance Undersecretary Antonette Tionko outlined the government’s plans to boost infrastructure in the island until the end of the President’s term in 2022.

Tionko said President Duterte’s plan to construct a railway system encircling the island will help connect special economic zones, thus boosting Mindanao’s investment climate. (PNA/Mark D. Francisco)
