President Duterte to award cash incentives to SEA Games medalists

MANILA -- The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is scheduled to award cash incentives to the medalists of the 29th Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday afternoon in Malacañang.


President Rodrigo Duterte will hand out the cash incentives to the athletes who won 24 gold, 33 silver, and 64 bronze medals in the SEA Games which was held last month in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.


The 24 gold winners are Dines Dumaan (pencak silat tanding men's 45-50kg), Colin John Syquia (equestrian showjumping individual), Carlo Biado (billiards men's 9-Ball singles), Chezka Centeno (billiards women's 9-Ball singles), Mariya Takahashi (judo women's +63kg to +70kg), Kiyomi Watanabe (judo womne's above 57kg to 63kg), Samuel Morrison (taekwondo men's under 74kg), Dustin Jacob Mella, Raphael Enrico Mella and Rodolfo Reyes Jr.(taekwondo men's poomsae), Marvin John Nobel (boxing men's 75kg to 81kg), Eumir Felix Marcia (boxing men's 69kg to 75kg), Mary Joy Tabal (athletics women's marathon), Aries Toledo (athletics men's decathlon), Trenten Anthony Beram (athletics men's 200m and 400m), Eric Shawn Cray (athletics men's 400m hurdle), Wayne Louie Brennan (fencing men's foil), Agatha Chrystenzen Wong (wushu compulsary 3rd Taijiquan), Reyland Capellan (gymnastics artistic men's floor exercise), Kaitlin de Guzman (gymnastics artistic women's uneven bars), Nikko Bryan Huelgas (men's triathlon), Marion Kim Mangrobang (women's triathlon), Robert Guarin, Emmanuel Portacio and Leoncio Carreon Jr. (lawn bowls men's fours), men's ice hockey team and men's basketball team.


The cash incentives based on Republic Act 10699 also known as the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act are PHP300,000 (gold), PHP150,000 (silver) and PHP75,000 (bronze).


The incentives for the athletes amount to PHP18,037,500 while PHP7,181,250 will be given to their coaches.

The medalists will also receive a citation from President Duterte for their performance in the SEA Games where the Philippines placed sixth.


Meanwhile, the PSC said that Presidential Adviser for Sports Dennis Uy will also give cash incentives of PHP50,000 (gold), PHP30,000 (silver) and PHP10,000 (bronze).


The additional cash incentives from Uy is through the Siklab Atleta Pilipinas Sports Foundation to support the Filipino athletes in their hard work and dedication to represent the country in international competitions, the PSC said. (PNA)
