MANILA -- A total of 15 countries will see action in the 19th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships scheduled from October 21 to 28 at the Coronado Lanes in Starmall EDSA, Mandaluyong City, the Philippine Bowling Federation (PBF) announced on Monday.
PBF President Steve Hontiveros said 60 boys and 34 girls from Australia, Bahrain, Chinese Taipei, Guam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and host Philippines will compete for top honors in the week-long competition sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation.
The bowlers will compete in Singles, Doubles, Team of Four and the Masters Finals.
Representing Team Philippines are Ivan Malig, Merwin Tan, Praise Gahol, Gospel Gahol, Bea Hernandez, Nina De Vera, RJoy Daval Santos and Daphne Custodio.
Malaysia, on the other hand, will be spearheaded by Mohammed Hafiz Zainuddin, Muhammad Arif Iskandar Azahar, Brandon Lik How Ting, Tun Ameerul Luqman Al-Hakim, Nora Lyana Nastasia, Faten Najihah, Nur Amirah Auni and Nur Ameerahusna.
Nora Lyana Nastasia won the girls' singles gold and girls' doubles silver in the 2015 edition of the tournament held in Macau.
Six countries have entries only in the boys division. These are Bahrain (Ahmed Al Awadhi, Ali Abdulla, Omar Al Mudhahki, Osama Hasan), Hong Kong (Ivan Tse, Alex Yu, Keith Mark and Oscar Poon), India (Kishan Ramachandriah, Shoumick Datta, Misam Abbas Rizvi and Varshit Gudivada), Indonesia (Billy Muhammad Islam, Patrick Manurung Hernandez, Paolo Manurung Hernandez and Wibianzo Joaquel), Kuwait (Ali Heedar, Soliman Alshuaibi, Faisal Saleem and Abdullah Aldubayan) and Saudi Arabia (Sari Jazaeri, Sultan Almasri, Saoud Alkhalewi and Abdulrahman Alkhalewi).
The other countries with entries in both divisions are Australia ( Elliot Batiste, Matthew Claque, Blayne Fletcher, Jayden Panella, Emma Williamson and Chloe Jones), Chinese Taipei (Chia-Hsing Che, Yu-Huei Wang, Li-Yang Liao, Jie-Yu Wu, Tsung-Wei Su, Hsaio-Ting Peng, Zhe-Huei Xu and Yun-Fan Chi), Guam (Darien Borja, Jeremiah Camacho, Frank Manibusan Jr., Noah Taimanglo, Jaeceline Espiritu, Annastashia Leon Guerrero, Eya Salandanan and Naiyah Taimanglo), Japan ( Takumi Hagasaki, Genki Hayashi, Keita Tokuhisa, Yuma Haraguchi, Rise Fujita, Akiho Mizutani, Shion Izumune and Momo Sakai), Korea (Seonglyul Lim, Yesol Kim, Juh-yung Lee, Dasom Yang, Jae-hyeon Han, Jung-min Lee, Geonha Park and Hyun-jung Lee), Macau (Man Lok Ho, Son Ian Wong, Chi Chong Ho, Un Lam Ian, I Hin Cheang, Chi Cheng Sou, Chon Hang Fong and Cheng Lam So0) and Singapore (Marcus Guo Rui Leong, Jomond Yu Sun Chia, Jarred Jia Le Lim, Han Qin Oh, Amabel Jiaying Chua, Charlene Jia Yi Lim, Iliya Syamim Binte Muhammad Azni and Jermaine Seah).
This is the third time that the Philippines is hosting the Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships. The first was in 1987 and the second was in 1997. (PNA)
