DUMAGUETE CITY -- The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NORPPO) on Monday received additional vehicles and equipment to boost its capabilities in crime fighting, and operational and administrative capabilities.

Senior Superintendent Edwin Portento, acting Negros Oriental provincial director, confirmed on Monday that the donations came from the defunct Police Regional Office 18 (PRO-18) or the Negros Island Region (NIR), which was abolished last month.

Most of the items that were turned over to the NORPPO will be for the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) and other lower offices, he said.

The vehicles and equipment that NORPPO received include one Mahindra Enforcer vehicle, one Man 6x6 Utility Truck, seven LTV Kia Scorpio vehicles, 10 M4 caliber 5.56 rifle, seven M16 or caliber 5.56 rifles, one NEGEV 5.56 machine gun, one Kawasaki Rouser motorcycle, one laptop computer, four Samsung J1 cellular phones, one Canon DSLR camera, three EOC Canon cameras, 20 tactical vests, 37 computer sets and 12 printers.

“This is a big help for us in our operational and administrative capabilities,” Portento said.

Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Ferraren led the blessing of the donated items during the regular Monday morning flag ceremony after which Philippine National Police Academy cadets also paid a courtesy call on Portento. (PNA)
