TACLOBAN CITY – The observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day was generally peaceful in this city due to the cooperation of the public, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Friday.

Chief Insp. Rex Cantilep, spokesman of the local police office, said authorities did not find any prohibited item in the cemeteries that needed to be confiscated.

“So far, our police officers assigned in every area have no reports of any untoward incident near and within cemeteries,” Cantilep said on Friday.

The local police had monitored the city's big cemeteries, such as the Superior Garden, the Elreposo public cemetery, and Holy Cross Memorial. Buried at Holy Cross are more than 2,000 victims of supertyphoon Yolanda in 2013.

“The only minor problem we dealt with was traffic congestion in roads leading to cemeteries, but it was acted immediately with the help of the city’s traffic management office,” Cantilep  said.

From Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, thousands of people flock to cemeteries to honor their dead loved ones by visiting their tombs and pray for their soul.  (with Christine M. Quimbo,OJT/PNA)
