Several areas under signal No. 1 due to TD Salome

MANILA (UPDATE) — Several areas were placed under Signal No. 1 as the low pressure area spotted off northern Samar developed into a tropical depression Thursday morning, state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its weather advisory issued at 8 a.m., PAGASA said TD "Salome" has maximum winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 25 kph. It was last observed in the vicinity of Mondragon, northern Samar.

Signal No. 1 is now hoisted over the following areas:

  • Camarines Sur
  • Albay
  • Sorsogon
  • Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands
  • Romblon
  • Marinduque
  • Southern Quezon
  • Laguna
  • Cavite
  • Batangas
  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Occidental Mindoro
  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Samar
  • Leyte including Biliran

"Salome" is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday morning.
