MANILA – Malacanang has appointed Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Prospero De Vera III as the agency's officer-in-charge “effective immediately.”

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed the appointment papers of De Vera last January 24.

President Rodrigo Duterte had designated Medialdea as his OIC while he is in India to attend the India-ASEAN Commemorative Summit and India’s Republic Day Celebration.

“Upon the instruction of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and to ensure the continuous and effective delivery of public services, please be informed that you are hereby designated as Office-in-Charge of the Commission on Higher Education, effectively immediately,” Medialdea said in a memorandum.

De Vera replaced Patricia Licuanan who resigned last January 15 as CHED chairperson amid allegations of corruption in releasing allowances for the K to 12 transition program, and her questionable foreign travels last year.

Licuanan’s term was supposed to end in July this year.

De Vera has been appointed CHED commissioner in 2016.

Before joining CHED, he served as the vice president for public affairs and as a Public Administration professor at the University of the Philippines.

He was also appointed as adviser to the government negotiating panel with the National Democratic Front - Communist Party of the Philippines - New People's Army (NDF-CPP-NPA). (PNA)
