SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique -- Classes have been suspended in some towns in Antique province on Tuesday because of Typhoon “Basyang” that brought light to moderate rain particularly in the northern part.

Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) officer Broderick Train said that classes have been suspended in the northern towns of Sebaste and Culasi for the elementary levels and for elementary and high school in Hamtic town.

“We are still awaiting for the other municipalities to send us feedback although for the Department of Education it is already automatic for the primary classes to be suspended under storm signal No. 1,” Train said.

Train added that per their monitoring all major roads in Antique are still passable.

Being closely monitored especially is the mountainous part of the Antique to Iloilo road where landslides usually occur.

“We remain on heightened alert,” Train said.

The PDRRM council declared heightened alert on Monday to prepare for the wrath of Basyang. (PNA)
