CEBU CITY -- In recognition of the rich contribution of the Chinese-Filipino heritage in the province, the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office (CPTO) will again celebrate the “Sugbu Chinoy Day” on Wednesday.

Joselito “Boboy” Costas, CPTO head, said on Tuesday this was the second year for the province to celebrate the “Sugbu Chinoy Day” which was also in observance of the Chinese Year.

“Last year, we held it for two days after the Chinese New Year. Now, we are holding it two days before so as to pave the way for the Chinese New Year celebration in Cebu,” Costas said.

Costas said Governor Hilario Davide III, Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, and the Chinese consul in Cebu were expected to attend the celebration to be held at the provincial capitol.

Activities lined up for the whole-day affair include Chinese calligraphy demonstration, tea-drinking ceremony, praying ceremony, and cooking demonstration.

There will also be booths for fortune cookies and fortune telling and a photo booth complete with Chinese costumes for public’s use.

Dragon and Lion Dances will also be performed at the offices of the Governor and Vice Governor. In the Chinese tradition, the Dragon and Lion Dances bring good luck and fortune.

A series of informative lectures on Chinese tradition and heritage, Cebuano Chinese history, Chinese influence in Cebu, and Chinoy financial mentality at the Capitol Dome will be conducted.

Although this is just a one-day affair, Costas said invited guests and the public would surely be entertained with the activities.
