DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental -- Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo has upgraded his earlier suspension order of classes to cover all grade levels now, including college and graduate school, because of Tropical Storm “Basyang.”

The order came around 11 a.m. Tuesday morning, hours after the governor announced that he was suspending classes in pre-school, elementary, high school and senior high school after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) placed Negros Oriental under storm signal no. 2.

Adrian Sedillo, Capitol spokesperson and executive officer of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), said the upgrading was pursuant to Sections 1 and 2 of Executive Order 66 or the guidelines on the suspension and cancellation of classes and work in government.

This is part of the precautionary measures taken to prevent any untoward incidents due to the impending threats of tropical storm Basyang which is expected to hit the province of Negros Oriental Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

The general public and all DRRM councils were hereby advised to take all the required preparedness and response mechanisms in order to minimize the impacts associated with the hazards to include flash floods, landslides, coastal flooding, and storm surge, Sedillo said.

Meanwhile, PAGASA, in its 2 p.m. advisory on Tuesday, already downgraded the storm signal warning over Negros Oriental from signal no. 2 to signal no. 1. (PNA)
