CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan -- It’s all systems go for the staging of the Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) Meet from February 25 to March 2 in this province.
With the theme “Broadening Youth’s Horizon through Sports Competition,” the annual regional sports meet will formally open at 4 p.m. on February 25 at the Bulacan Sports Complex in Barangay Sta. Isabel here.
Senators Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and Manny Pacquiao are expected to grace the sports event that aims to promote sportsmanship, good values and camaraderie among the delegates.
Thousands of student-athletes from 20 school divisions in Central Luzon will show their wares in various sports disciplines that include athletics, baseball, basketball, boxing, dance sports, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, badminton, wushu, arnis, wrestling, archery, chess, football, gymnastics, table tennis, billiards and taekwondo.
The participating school divisions are the City of Angeles; City of Mabalacat; City of San Fernando; Province of Pampanga; City of Malolos; City of Meycauayan; City of San Jose Del Monte; Province of Bulacan; City of Balanga; Province of Bataan; City of Cabanatuan; City of Gapan; Science City of Munoz; City of San Jose; Province of Nueva Ecija; City of Tarlac; Province of Tarlac; City of Olongapo; Province of Zambales and Province of Aurora.
Winners in the week-long CLRAA meet will advance to the Palarong Pambansa to be held in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the annual sporting event is not only the breeding ground of the nation’s future sports heroes but also sharpens the mind and body of the youths.
He also cited the need for the government’s support to achieve the goals and dreams of the student-athletes.
“The government plays a big role in shaping the future of the athletes. It is our duty to guide and support them in their needs so that they would do their best in whatever they are doing,” the governor said.
In 2017, the province of Bulacan emerged as overall winner in the CLRAA, followed by the province of Bataan and the City of Olongapo. (PNA)
