TACURONG CITY – A fixer of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) here was killed while his companion was wounded in daylight shooting here Friday.

Supt. Joefel Siason, city police director, identified the slain victim as Christopher Laroscain, resident of Barangay Grino, Tacurong City. He works as “fixer” at the local LTO by facilitating transactions for drivers’ license and registration of vehicles for a fee.

Siason said Laroscain was standing in front of his home in Purok Bagong Silang at past 4 p.m. when two men riding in tandem on a motorbike passed by.

One of the suspects pulled a cal. 45 pistol and shot Laroscain in different parts of his body, killing him instantly.

Subsequently, Laroscain’s companion, identified as Ronald Bucaneg, 44, was standing in front of his home in Barangay New Isabela when the suspects, also riding in tandem on a motorbike, arrived and opened fire. He was critically injured.

Siason said the twin shooting could be related to the victims’ work as LTO “fixers." He said the two may have earned the ire of people transacting business with LTO whom they promised to help but failed to deliver.

The LTO earlier banned the use of “fixers” for all its clients’ office transactions, regarding them as unlawful. Siason said an investigation on the twin shooting incidents is still ongoing. (PNA)
