DAVAO CITY—The gold-rich Compostela Valley province will soon have a big thematic Gold Museum with an interactive feature of the mining operation in the province.

Christine Dompor, Provincial Tourism Officer, said the province with the help of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), would build the biggest thematic museum in the country. It would have an area of about 4,000 to 5,000 square meters.

Dompor said the museum would be an iconic landmark in Davao Region. It would be located within the ComVal capitol area.

“We are now working with the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority,” Dompor said.

DOT will be sending a project management team to oversee the implementation of the project. The project was also endorsed by the Regional Development Council XI.

Dompor said that at the end of the interactive tour is an area where jewelry products would be displayed.

"You will see the finish products made by the artisans. It is going to showcase also the green mining practices which is being championed by the DOST (Department of Science and Technology),” she said.

Dompor said it was in ComVal where the feasibility study on green mining was conducted. It shows that gold can be extracted without using cyanide and mercury, she added. (PNA)
